Artist Ed Fairburn brings every day maps to life using the the chaotic patchwork of roads, trains, and rivers as the framework for his large-scale portraits. He uses meticulous ink or pencil crosshatching to create portraits hidden amongst the topographical features. See more of his work over on his Facebook. (via colossal)

They are magnificent
These are amazing, and I can’t believe I’ve come across them today, as this is the very idea I had for the cover of my album “Roads”. My partner kept telling me it wouldn’t work, but now I see these magnificent portraits, I am again inspired. Thanks for sharing :-)
thank you for stopping by .. let us know how the cover works out :)
I’ve been seeing a lot of map-based art lately, and love it! These are especially intriguing examples.
