‘What will you leave behind’ – an art installation in the Ardel Gallery in Bangkok, 2013 by Nino Sarabutra who filled a gallery floor with more than 100,000 miniature porcelain skulls that visitors would walk on. Words from the artist:
‘I want people to ask themselves how they live, what are they doing
– if today was your last on earth, what will you leave behind?’
Nino asked a range of people to help create the skulls – friends, family, neighbors, students, workers etc. While making them, they were asked to contemplate their life and think about what they will leave behind.
Strangely hypnotic. That would be wonderful to visit and get a 1st hand look at.
Yes true..quite hypnotic indeed
Very subtle art, I love that. I don’t know if I would even notice that it was skulls lol.
Wow, that’s so cool! I love it!
:)
where´s is this? i would love to go
It was in September last year in Bangkok..sorry, maybe there will be a similar exhibition again at some point…
that person was walking on porcelain. OUCH. And it is cool but creepy.
I wanna be there!
What an unusual installation. But the questions that are asked are just as important as the visual and physical sensations of walking upon it.
Creepy and cool! I understand the artist’s serious point behind this piece. Is it bad, however, that I’m also reminded of the Terminator? ;)
heheh :)

Interesting. <3
thanks for the reblog :)
The skulls even have “expressions”… a brilliant concept. Very thoughtful question.

I’m always drawn to art that questions our mortality and what it means to be human.

I’ve been racking my brain trying to remember who the artist was that filled the Turbine Hall with porcelain sunflower seeds, that could be walked on; I got there in the end. http://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-modern/exhibition/unilever-series-ai-weiwei-sunflower-seeds
I think the artist asked the wrong question.
I think the question, in current times, would be:
“How does it feel to walk over other people’s faces – to get where you’re going?”
Oh my goodness….that was eerily beautiful, creepy, disturbing, and thought-provoking at the same time…0_0
but I don’t think I’d have the guts to walk across that room of skulls without a shudder…:S

Amazing and thought provoking. I wonder if this would nudge some folks to ponder altering their momentum, take the other fork in the road?
